Billing Terms

These Billing Terms explain how subscriptions and payments work for the Acta mobile application. They form part of our Terms & Conditions.
1. Subscription Plans
Acta offers three tiers:
- Free — No charge. Includes up to 3 topics, 1 daily briefing, 20 chat messages per day, and 3 lifetime podcast generations (up to 3 minutes each).
- Pro — Up to 10 topics, 5 daily briefings, 50 chat messages per day, 2 podcasts per day (up to 7 minutes each), auto-fetch podcasts, and 5 manual refreshes per day.
- Monthly: $6.99/month
- Annual: $59.99/year (save ~29%)
- Premium — Up to 30 topics, unlimited briefings, 300 chat messages per day, 5 podcasts per day (up to 10 minutes each), auto-fetch podcasts, and unlimited manual refreshes.
- Monthly: $14.99/month
- Annual: $119.99/year (save ~33%)
Prices are in US dollars and may vary by region due to app store currency conversion. The price displayed on your app store at the time of purchase is the price you will be charged.
2. How Billing Works
All paid subscriptions are processed through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. When you subscribe:
- Payment is charged to your App Store or Google Play account
- Your subscription begins immediately upon purchase confirmation
- Your subscription automatically renews at the end of each billing period (monthly or annually, depending on your plan) unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the renewal date
- Your account will be charged for renewal within 24 hours prior to the end of the current period
We do not directly process, store, or have access to your payment card details. All payment processing is handled by Apple or Google.
3. Free Trial
We may from time to time offer a free trial period for paid plans. If a free trial is offered:
- The trial length and eligible plan will be clearly stated before you subscribe
- You will not be charged during the free trial period
- If you do not cancel before the trial ends, your subscription will automatically convert to a paid subscription and you will be charged the displayed price
- Free trials are limited to one per Apple ID or Google account
- You can cancel at any time during the trial without being charged
When billing starts: Your first charge occurs on the day after your free trial expires. For example, if your 7-day trial starts on 1 April, you will be charged on 8 April unless you cancel before 7 April.
4. Price Changes
We may change subscription prices from time to time. If we increase the price of your plan:
- We will notify you at least 30 days in advance via email and/or in-app notification
- The new price will take effect at the start of your next billing cycle after the notice period
- If you do not agree to the new price, you may cancel before the new price takes effect
- Apple and Google may also require you to re-confirm your subscription at the new price before renewal
5. Upgrades & Downgrades
- Upgrades take effect immediately. The price difference is pro-rated for the remainder of your current billing period.
- Downgrades take effect at the end of your current billing period. You retain access to your current plan's features until then.
6. Failed Payments & Grace Period
If a renewal payment fails (e.g., expired card), the app store will retry the charge according to its own retry schedule. During this grace period (typically up to 16 days on Apple, up to 30 days on Google), you may retain access to paid features. If payment is not resolved, your subscription will be cancelled and you will be downgraded to the Free plan.
